Buckinghamshire Council Planning Update

Important Buckinghamshire Council Planning Update

Last week Buckinghamshire Council published a list of sites that have been identified as being potentially suitable for development and are inviting comments on their availability, suitability and viability via a survey which closes on 16th March 2026

This list includes a site in Chearsley, with a potential capacity to accommodate 36 houses.  See the link to interactive map here.

The Parish Council will be preparing and submitting a response by 16th March.  Our response will be based on our previous consultation submission from October 2025 and previous objections to development on this site. Parishioners are also able to submit their own comments via the survey.  See link to survey here.

In addition, if you would like to share your comments with the Chearsley Parish Council by 13th March we will submit a summary with our response.  Email [email protected]

Chearsley Parish Council will continue to discuss the progress of the Buckinghamshire Council Local Plan, and our approach to engaging and consulting with Parishioners in our upcoming Parish Council Meetings. We will also share more details at the Village Meeting on 16th March (agenda to follow).

Buckinghamshire Council’s published this announcement last week:

Sites being validated for the Local Plan

This week, we’ve published a list of sites that have been identified as being potentially suitable for development under the Local Plan for Buckinghamshire’s plan-making process and are inviting comments on their availability, suitability and viability via a survey which closes on 16 March.

The emerging plan (a legal requirement) must demonstrate how Buckinghamshire can accommodate 95,000* new homes to meet Government targets.  It will set out how it meets future needs for housing, the economy, community facilities and essential infrastructure, while also protecting the county’s precious natural and historic environment.

1,335 residents, businesses and community partners have already shared their views via formal consultation, and a detailed technical assessment of potential development sites has been completed. Of the 1,400 sites identified across Buckinghamshire, around 400 are now being published for further engagement and assessment.

No decisions on site allocations will be made until this full assessment has been completed and we’ll publish the Local Plan in July for further consultation prior to it being submitted to the Government’s Planning Inspectorate in December.

*For context, 95,000 represents a 43% increase in the number of new homes required in Buckinghamshire compared to previous Government requirements.
